Examples of when you would use a transfer belt
- Stand by assist
- 1 or 2 person transfer
- wheelchair to chair
- chair to toilet or commode
- one person car transfer
- bed to wheelchair
- one or two person walks with or without aid
- one or two person assist with stairs
- patient at risk of falls
- repositioning in wheelchair
Helping older individuals initiate and maintain exercise
- Never too late
- Consult with physio
- resistance ans agility
- avoid prolonged sitting
- proper alignment while siting
- use stronger joints and muslces
- warmup
- stop when SOB or dysrhythmias
- cool down
What are symptoms of orthostatic hypotension
- dizzy
- lightheaded
- nausea
- tachycardia
- pallor
- fainting

When do you know the walker is the right height
Elbows are flexed 15-30 degrees

What are the three steps someone using a cane should do
1) Place cane forward
2) Weaker leg forward
3) stronger leg past cane
How do you know crutch is right length
2-3 finger tips from axillary
Tip is 5cm lateral and 15 cm in front of pt. shoes
What are the 4 crutch gaits
1) 4 point alternating
2) 3 point alternating
3) 2 point gait
4) Swing through gait
Explain the 4 point alternating gait
- Weight on both legs
- alternating with crutches

All weight on 1 foot
