- laryngoscope w/ secure & working light
- towel / pad
- suction equipment
(1/3) LARYNGOSCOPY
> Preparation (4)
- Position Pt (as per 190 - Airway man. & pos.)
- Size blade, attach to handle
- Place laryngoscope to LEFT of Pt’s head
- Place suction equip’t to RIGHT of Pt’s head
(1/3) LARYNGOSCOPY
> Left hand, Right hand (2)
LEFT hand: light grip at base of handle
RIGHT hand: support Pt’s head
(1/3) LARYNGOSCOPY
> Insertion (4)
- Scissor mouth open w/ fingers
- Insert blade along right side of mouth
- Sweep tongue to the left
- Suction / remove FB’s as req’d.

FBAO w/ ACS

- laryngoscope
- MF
(2/3) MAGILL’S FORCEPS to remove FBAO
> Upper airway inspection w/ MF
Inspect airway as per 028 - Laryngoscopy
(2/3) MAGILL’S FORCEPS to remove FBAO
> FB sighted - prep MF
Pick up MF in RIGHT hand using thumb & ring finger, use index finger for support
(2/3) MAGILL’S FORCEPS to remove FBAO
> Insert MF
Place MF tip along blade, follow natural curve of blade, keep tips closed initially
(2/3) MAGILL’S FORCEPS to remove FBAO
> Remove FB
- maintain visual on FB
- when 2cm from object, open tips
- “chopstick” object & carefully remove
(2/3) MAGILL’S FORCEPS to remove FBAO
> Check
- re-inspect airway
- visualise upper airway through to vocal cords if possible
(2/3) MAGILL’S FORCEPS to remove FBAO
> Reassess
- reassess RSA
- Gather full set of vitals
