Reticular activating system (RAS) and the 3 things the brain needs
A
- Neurological circuits in the brain that control functions of staying awake, paying attention, and sleeping.
- Oxygen, water, glucose lack of these can cause altered mental status.

A
- Hypoxia
- Administer high concentration oxygen via NRB mask.

Diabetes Mellitus
A
-Condition brought about by decreased insulin production or inability of cells to use insulin properly. Basic diabetic.

Type 1 diabetes (Insulin dependent diabetes)
A
- When pancreatic cells fail to function properly and does not have enough insulin to transfer circulating glucose.
- Rapid onset, abnormal drunken behavior, pale, sweaty skin.

Type 2 diabetes (Non-Insulin-dependent diabetes)
A
- When pancreas has enough insulin but body is lacking in glucose intake.
- Patients can control this type with proper dieting.
