Mitosis Flashcards
What are the main 4 division stages for mitosis
Interphase prepares to divide me unraveling DNA
1) prophase
2) metaphase
3) anaphase
4) telophase
What happens in prophase
Chromosomes condense
Centrioles start moving to opposite ends of cell forming network of protien fibres called spindle. Nuclear envelope breaks down
What happens in metaphase
Chromosomes line up along middle of the cell and become attached to the spindle by their centrometre.
What happens during anaphase?
Centromeres divide separating each pair of chromatids. Spindles contract pulling chromatids to opposite poles. V shaped
What happens during telophase?
Reach opposite poles on spindle. Uncoil and become long and thin again.nuclear envelope forms. Cytoplasm divides and interphase starts again
What is the cell cycle?
Period of cell growth and DNA Replication called interphase. Interphase is subdivided into 3 Sep growth stages G1 S G2
Starts with mitosis
Gap phase 1 grows n new organelles n protiens are made
Synthesis replicates DNA
Gap 2 keeps growing and protiens needed for cell division are made
