Active Transport Flashcards
What are co transporters
Type of carrier protien
Bind 2 molecules at time
Concentration gradient of one of the molecules is used to move the other molecule against its own concentration gradient
What factors affect the rate of active transport
Speed of carrier protiens
Number of carrier protiens
Rate of respiration
How is glucose absorbed?
Small intestine
Sodium ions actively transported out of calls into blood
Sodium- potassium pump
Creates a concentration gradient causes sodium ions to diffuse from the lumen of the ileum into the epithelial cell. Sodium glucose co transporter protiens.
Co transporter carries glucose into the cell with sodium. As a result concentration of glucose inside the cell increases. Glucose diffuses out of cell and into blood
Describe active transport
Carrier protiens are involved in active transport
Attached and changes shape
Low to high
Needs ATP
ATP undergoes hydrolysis reaction ADP and p releases energy so solutes can be transported
