Mitosis Flashcards
4 phases of mitosis
Prophase. Metaphase. Anaphase. Telophase.
Process by which the nucleus divides (each nucleus will have set of single stranded chromosomes).
Mitosis
Chromosomes become visible
Centrioles appear & start to move towards the poles.
Spine fibers form between centrioles
Nucleus disappears ( PRO= before/ start off)
Prophase
Sister chromatids attach to spindle fibers by their centromeres
They line up on equator
Centrioles are at each pole of cell
Metaphase (META= middle)
Sister chromatids are pulled apart
Sone stranded chromosomes move to opposite ends of cell
Anaphase! (ANA= apart)
Nuclear envelope re-forms around chromosomes on each end of the cell
Mitosis ends with two nuclei with the correct number of single stranded chromosomes
Cell can now divide in two through cytokinesis
Telophase (TELO= far, complete)
