Mitosis Flashcards
0
Q
Haploid?
A
Half the normal chromosome compliment
1
Q
Diploid?
A
The normal number of chromosomes in a cell, meaning two sets
2
Q
Chromatids?
A
Stands of duplicated chromosomes
3
Q
Equator?
A
The middle of the cell where the chromosomes like up
4
Q
Spindle fibres?
A
Where chromosomes attach and pull chromatids to opposite poles of the cell
5
Q
Chromosomes?
A
Pairs of chromatids
6
Q
Mitosis?
A
The process which by the nucleus divides daughter nuclei, each of which receive the exact same chromosome compliment as the original nucleus
7
Q
Describe the process of mitosis in 6 stages
A
- Nucleus containing long uncoiled chromosomes double two form identical chromosomes
- Short choices chromosomes
- Pairs of identical chromosomes line up at the equator of the cell where spindle fibres attach
- Chromatids are pulled to opposite poles of the cell
- Cytoplasm divides and nuclear membrane forms around the two new sets of chromosomes
- Identical daughter cells with the same chromosome compliment
