Body Systems Flashcards
What are the three parts of the Brian?
Cerebrum, cerebellum and the medulla
What is the CNS composed of?
Brain, spinal cord and nerves
What is the function of the cerebrum?
Mental processes, thought, memory, reasoning
What is the function of the cerebellum?
Controls balance and coordination
What is the function of the medulla?
Involuntary processes- heart and breathing rate
What is the order of neurones in the reflex arc?
Sensory-> Relay-> Motor
Sensory neurone does what?
Carries nerves impulses from receptor
What does the relay neurone do?
Transfers impulses from sensory neurone to motor neurone
What does the motor beaut one do?
Carries nervous impulses from CNS to effector muscles
Describe the reflex arc
Part of body comes into contact with hot object
Pain receptors detect sensory input and sends impulse to sensory neurone
Relay neurone passes the impulse to motor neurone at a synapse
Motor neurone carries impulse to muscles in contact with the pain
Muscles contact and move part or body away from danger
What are the four main chambers of the heart?
Right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventricle
What takes what to the lungs?
The pulmonary artery takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs
What takes what to the body?
The aorta takes oxygenated blood to the body
What takes blood from the lungs to the heart?
The pulmonary vein
What takes blood to the heart from the body?
The vena cava
