DNA and protiensynthesis Flashcards
0
Q
Describe the appearance and function of DNA
A
Double stranded helix with complimentary base pairs which caries genetic information for making proteins
1
Q
What does DNA stand for?
A
Deoxyribonucleic acid
2
Q
What are the bases called and what do they code for?
A
Adenosine + Thymine
Cytosine + Guanine
3 bases = 1 amino acid
The order determines a different amino acid and they code for the shape and function of proteins including structural, enzymes, hormones, antibodies and receptors
3
Q
Describe the process of proton synthesis
A
- mRNA carries a copy of the DNA out of the nucleus out into the cytoplasm to meet a ribosome
- Proteins are then assembled from the base and amino acid order
