Mitosis Flashcards
Describe the stages of mitosis.
First stage:The DNA replicates to form two copies of each chromosome.
second stage:One set of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell. The nucleus also divides.
Final stage:The cytoplasm and the cell membrane divide to form two identical cells.
What is mitosis?
The stage of the cell cycle when the cell divides is called mitosis.
Why do cells divide?
Because we need to grow and so that the cells can recreate copies of themselves.
Why is mitosis so important for our body?
Because it plays a big role in our growth and is also important for the development of our body.
What are chromosomes?
Chromosomes are coiled up lengths of DNA molecule.
How many pairs of chromosomes are in a nucleus?
There are 46 chromosomes but 23 PAIRS of chromosomes in each cell.
