Mitosis Flashcards
What is the first stage of mitosis
Two pairs of homologous chromosomes are in the cell. each chromosome makes an exact copy of its genetic information
What is the second stage of mitosis
The chromosomes shorten and thicken the pair of chromosomes are held together at the centromere
What is the third stage of mitosis
The nuclear membrane begins to break down and disappear
What is the fourth stage of mitosis
The chromosomes line up at the equator of the cell. Spindle fibres form and they pull the chromatids apart
What is the fifth stage of mitosis
The chromosomes move to the opposite poles
What is the sixth stage of mitosis
New nuclear membrane begins to form around each set of chromosomes
What is the seventh stage of mitosis
The cytoplasm divides and two new genetically identical daughter cells are formed
The diploid number has been maintained
