mitosis Flashcards
G1
Increase size, makes more proteins +organelles
S
Chromosomes replicated
G2
Organelles + molecules needed for cell division made. Duplicated DNA checked for errors
Prophase
Uncoiled chromosomes condense into chromosomes
Centrioles separate to opposite sides of the nucleus
Spindle fibers form from centrioles
Nuclear membrane breaks down
Metaphase
Chromosomes lineup in middle (metaphase plate)
Spindle fibers attach to centromere of each chromosome
Anaphase
Sister chromatids separate into individual chromosomes
Separate into 2 groups on opposite sides of cell
Telophase
Chromosomes at opposite ends of cell and lose shape (decondense to form chromatin)
Nuclear membrane forms around cluster of chromosomes
Cell pinches inward between cell’s poles
Cytokinesis
By end of cytokinesis cell is completely divided
Each cell has two identical chromosomes
