A
- Anything
- Vaccines, bug bites, etc.

When do clinical signs occur with systemic anaphylaxis after exposure to the antigen?
A
- 2-20 minutes of the insult

Clinical signs of systemic anaphylaxis
A
- Acute dyspnea, stertor, inspiratory dyspnea
- +/- urticaria
- Others too like pruritus, diarrhea, facial edema, collapse
- Recovery/death is rapid (15 min.)

Necropsy findings o systemic anaphylaxis
A
- Pulmonary edema/congestion
- Laryngeal edema
- Emphysema

Treatment for systemic anaphylaxis
A
- Epinephrine 1mL/100lb IM, SQ, IV!!
- Also steroids, NSAIDs, diuretics
- Support: fluids, O2, tracheostomy, etc.

Milk allergy - what type of hypersensitivity?
A
- TYpe 1 hypersensitivity seen during dry off due to milk proteins entering circulation

When does milk allergy occur?
A
- Dry off period
- Milk is being reabsorbed

Signs of milk allergy
A
- Sudden onset urticaria, respiratory distress (uncommon)
- Edema, emphysema

Treatment for milk allergy
A
- Corticosteroids, antihistamines, milk out
- CAREFUL with pregnant cows getting corticosteroids

Prevention for milk allergy
A
- Avoid milk retention
- Avoid cow retention
