Midazolam
Benzodiazepine. Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. Sedation, anxiety reduction, amnesia, reduce secretions, antiemetic. SE- agitation, hiccups, n/v.
Trimethobenzamide hydrochloride (tigan)
Antiemetic. Drowsiness and dizziness.
Urokinase
For clotted IV lines
Isoniazid (INH)
Antitubercular drug prescribed as mono therapy to tx latent tb infection. Combined with other drugs also used for active tb tx. SE- hepatotoxicity and peripheral neuropathy. Avoid alcohol. Take pyridoxine (B6) to prevent neuropathy. Avoid aluminum containing antacids (maalox) within 1 hr of INH. Report vision changes, dark urine, jaundice, neuropathy.
Rifampin
Antitubercular drug. Causes red-orange discoloration of body fluids (urine, sweat, saliva, tears).
Cromolyn (opticrom)
Tx bilateral conjunctivitis. Should not wear contact lens when using this med.
Folic acid
Pregnancy, alcoholism, liver disease
St. John’s wart
Herbal used as antidepressant, antiviral, and antimicrobial. Don’t take with digoxin, warfarin dec effectiveness. Potentiate effects of hydromorphone. With citalopram SSRI drug inc risk of serotonin syndrome
Burns (two drugs)
Sutilanis (travase) and collagenase (santyl) enzymatic drug that eats dead tissue. Don’t use on face, if pregnant, over large nerves, or if area is opened to a body cavity
Whirlpool
Hydrotherapy is also used to debrede. Give pain meds before. Worry about cross contamination
Burn drug
Silver sulfadiazine (can lower WBC, rash). Mafenide acetate (can cause acid base problems, stings). Silver nitrate (keep dressings wet, electrolyte problems). Povidone iodine (stings, stains, allergies, acid base problems).
