Furosemide (lasix)
Diuretic for HTN or HF. Loop diuretic. Taken with K supp.
Atenolol (tenormin)
Beta-adrenergic antagonist. Do not d/c suddenly.
Metoprolol (lopressor)
Beta-adrenergic blocker. HTN, angina, MI. Taken w/ food.
Clonidine (catapres)
AE- dry mouth, impotence, sleep disturbance. Central acting adrenergic antagonist.
Chlorothiazide (diuril)
Diuretic. For lower BP. Inc urination, dec swelling if edema, and wt loss. Daily wt. No alcohol. Low Na. Sensitivity to sunlight.
Propranolol hydrochloride
Blocks beta-adrenergic stimulation and causes dec HR, myocardial contractility, and conduction
Nifedipine
CCB. Prevention of angina. Hold for low BP
Captopril (capoten)
ACEI. HTN. Stay in bed for the first 3 hrs. SE- loss of taste for first 3 mo.
Methyldopa
Central acting adrenergic stimulant. HTN. AE- orthostatic HTN, sedation, dec mental acuity, dry mouth; erectile dysfunction, fever, edema, bradycardia, loss of libido. Don’t take with alcohol or CNS dep.
Dopamine
Adrenergic. Hypotension. Inc CO. Check urine output often. Administered according to micrograms per kilogram per hour. SE- inc ICP, ectopic beats, nausea, HA
