- trains us to think of present emotions and feelings
- minds are usually too focused on the past or the future
- become aware of all incoming thoughts and feelings and also accept them
- goal is to gain awareness of any negative thoughts and gaining control over them
- find when negative processes are occurring and alter their reaction to be more of a reflection

MEDITATION AND MINDFUL BREATHING

- centre to this therapy is the art of meditation this is the most effective way of developing mindfulness skills
- siting medatation physically removes individuals from there life
- learned through practice and guided instruction
- client will focus on sitting comfortably with their spine straight and focus on breathing
- then to their body sensations then emotions helping stop negative thoughts entering
- helps people accept thoughts and feelings are impermanent

INFORMAL PRACTICES OF MINDFULNESS
A
- once learned can be practiced through daily life amid activities such as cleaning or having a shower
- informal practices are opposite of multi-tasking it is focusing on a single task and surroundings
- eg shower water hitting skin sounds of water
- when attention begins to wander should be brought back
