Midterm | (Lab) Radiographic CXT Flashcards
3 FUNCTIONS OF THE CASSETTE
- it protects the screen and film from physical damage
- it keeps the IS and film in close contact with one another
- it protects the film from being exposed to white light
PARTS OF CASSETTE
front panel
compression device
back panel
cassette frame
hinge
lead foil
locking mechanism
front panel of cassette is made up of?
- radioparent material (low z)
- carbon fiber (consisted of graphite fiber (z=6) in a plastic matrix)
- can be plastic and bakelite materials (ex. magnesium and aluminum)
compression device is made up of
foam sponges
rubber
contact felt/felt cushion
plastic foam
Where is the compression device found?
Beween each screen and CXT cover
this is designed to provide proper contact with the intensifying screen
compression device
functions of the compression device
- compress film and IS together
- adhesive for front and back panel
What is the back panel of CXT made up of?
Radiopaque material (high z) to minimize backscatter radiation
- can be made our of Al or stainless steel
Some remnant beam goes beyond the cxt and bounces back to the IR, if it is not absorbed by the back panel, this will result to—
image noise
this gives support to the remainder of the cassette
cassette frame
Compositions of the cxt frame
- plastic frame front
- back panel is made of Al/ steel/ hreavy metal
what cxts are more susceptible to damage>
those without cxt frames (incorporated with front panel)
connects the front to back panel and allows the cassette to be closed and opened
hinge
what is the hinge made out of ?
plastic or metal
located inside of the back panel and is designed to absorb backscatter radiation
lead foil
