Midterm 2 Lecture 16 Flashcards
Why is understanding the process of growth important
To know
Body composition
Feed utilization depends on growth efficiency
Partitioning of energy determines reproductive success
What is growth in a animal
The increase of body weight until mature body size is reached this includes to being a sperm egg up to maturity
How is the growth process regulated
By the DNA which tells it when to grow and develop
Meaning an increase in cell size and cell numbers
What is development in animals
Coordination of all diverse processes until maturity is reached
Meaning cell differentiation, changes in body shape, and form and function
What is hyperplasia
When cells grow by multiplication of cells which is by number
What is hypertrophy
When cells grow by size
How does muscle increase and grow
When the fetus is being made hyperplasia is happening but once the animal is born the existing muscle cells go through hypertrophy
How does fat tissue(adipose tissue) grow and increase
The cells are by hyperplasia but grow in size by hypertrophy
How does prenatal growth happen
Cells multiply which makes tissues that makes organs and lastly makes organs
What is totiponet and what does it do
It’s in the early blastocyst or anything before in the embryo development and they’re able to be placenta or tissue
What is pluripotenta bd what does it do
It happens in the blastocyst and these cells change every single system becoming the organs
What are the 3 layers of cells in embryos called the germ layers
Ectoderm(outer layer) , mesoderm(middle layer) , endoderm (inner layer)
What does the ectoderm do
The outer layer which makes the skin, nervous system, hair, and brain are made
What does the mesoderm in the embryo
It’s the middle layer and it makes the Skelton, muscle, kidney, heart, blood
What does the endoderm do in the embryo
The inner layer and they make the digestive tract, lungs and bladder
