Layers

A

Wall is made up of three layers. Most superficial is the perimetrium. the entire uterus is covered by folding of serous membrane called peritoneum this outermost layer is actually made up of the visceral layer of the membrane. Myometrium is the thickest layer and os comprised of smooth muscle. The deepest layer is the endometrium. It is thinner than the myometrium but thicker than perimetrium.
Perimetrium has outer epithelial layer. Endometrium undergoes regular change in its composition. When menstruation occurs the stratum functionalis sloughs away and the endometrium reduces in thickness.
