Several alveoli with a common opening is an alveolar sac.
Two types of alveolar cells (simple squamous)

A
Form a nearly continuous lining, more numerous than type 2. Main site of gas exchange.

A
Free surfaces containing microvilli, secrete alveolar fluid.
