Explain how to do a DRY mount:
A
- Sample placed straight onto slide + observed down microscope
E.g: Hair cells

Explain how to do a WET mount:
A
- Solid specimens viewed whole or cut into thin pieces (sectioning)
- Piece placed on slide
- Stain added + covered with colour slip
E.g: Pollen, muscle and plant tissues

Explain how to do a SUSPENSION mount:
A
- Specimens suspended in liquid (usually oil or water)
- Cover slip placed over sample
E.g: Aquatic organisms

Explain how to do a SQUASH slide:
A
- Wet mount prepared + covered with lens tissue
- Pressure applied to slide
- Good for absorbing soft tissues
E.g: Root tips

Explain how to do a SMEAR slide:
A
- Edge of slide used to smear sample, creating thin + even coating on slide
- Coverslip placed on sample
E.g: Blood

Why do u add a stain?
A
- To increase visibility of specimen
- Gives contrast between specimens + background, gives contrast between cell organelles (both worth 1 mark total)
