Subacute neurologic deficits
Naked and via respiratory
Herpes simplex virus encephalitis
Spread through peripheral nerves
Concern in neonates
Seizures
Damage primarily linked to medial and inferior temporal lobes
Cryptococcus neoformans
Encapsulated yeast in soil of pigeons and chickens
Has PS capsule
Entes via resp tract (could have lung symptoms) and get to CNS via hematogenous dissemination
Subacute presentation
Coccidiomycosis
Through inhalation of arthroconidia from soil and germinate into spherules which rupture
SW US
Major manifestation is pulmonary but could also have persistent headache
Toxo gondii encephalitis
Ring-enhancing lesions
Can cross placenta
will see tachyzoites or cysts upon biopsy
