Q

How are microscopes useful in diagnosing?

A

Viruses don’t appear up on microscopes.
Different stains can be used to identify different microbes and different types of bacteria.
You can identify the different white blood cells present in the sample

14
Q

How can you tell if an infection is viral or bacterial using a microscope?

A

Viral infection would have more Lymphocyte and a bacterial infection will have more polymorphs
Viruses don’t show up on microscopes

16
Q

What does PCR do?

A

Detects viral RNA and DNA
But doesn’t tell us about the actual virus
However it’s highly specific

17
Q

What are obsolete methods to detect viruses?

A

Using electron microscopes. Using tissue cultures with viruses

18
Q

What are the diagnostic principles in parasitology?

A
19
Q

What is serology?

A

Scientific study examining blood serum
