What are community treatment orders?
Enables person who needs treatment, and will not voluntarily accept services, to receive appropriate treatment.
What are the two levels of Community Treatment Orders?
- Level 1 Community Treatment Order
- Level 2 Community Treatment order
Describe a level 1 community treatment order
- Up to 42 days
- Reviewed by psychiatrist/medical practitioner within 24 hours or ASAP.
- Confirmation must be notified by chief psychiatrist.
Describe a level 2 community treatment order
- Up to 12 months (adults) or 6 months (child)
- Can be made by SA Civil and Admin Tribunal on application by medical professional or person with interest in person’s welfare
What is a inpatient treatment order?
Enables person who needs treatment, and will not voluntarily accept services, to receive appropriate treatment.
What are the levels of inpatient treatment orders?
- Level 1 inpatient treatment order
- Level 2 inpatient treatment order
- Level 3 inpatient treatment order
Describe a level 1 inpatient treatment order
- Last up to 7 days, made by authorised health professional
- Reviewed within 24 hours or ASAP by psychiatrist or medical professional- not same as who made order
Describe a level 2 inpatient treatment order
- Last up to 42 days
- Made by a psychiatrist or authorised medical practitioner for patient on an IT01
Describe a level 3 inpatient treatment order
-Last up to 12 months (adult) or 6 months (child) made by tribunal on application
Describe the DSM 5
- DSM 5 contains: all mental disorders, personality disorders and intellectual disability, as well as other medical diagnoses.
- Axes used to assess to obtain single score for global level of functioning.

- Provides a foundation for identifying global health trends and statistics
