What are the 4 ligaments of the knee
Anterior cruciate

What can cause tears in these ligaments?
Twisting movements in the knee
How does it present?
Pain, swelling, stiffness
Restricted ROM
Locking of knee
Knee giving way
Popping of the knee
What are the tests to aid diagnosis of meniscal tests and what type do they identify?
McMurray’s test identifies lateral or medial meniscal damage
Apley grind test - either meniscus
What are the Ottowa Knee rules?
Used to determine whether a pt requires an XR of the knee after an acute knee injury to look for a fracture
- > 55 yrs
- patella tenderness
- fibular head tenderness
- can’t flex the knee to 90 degrees
- can’t weight bear
What are investigations
MRI
Arthroscopy - gold standard
What is conservative management?
RICE
R - rest
I - ice
C - compression
E - elevation
What are surgical options for management?
Repair of meniscus
Resection of the affected portion of the meniscus
