What is it
A
inflammation of the tibial tuberosity where the patella ligament inserts

What age and sex does it more commonly affect
A
10-15 years
More common in males

How does it present
A
Gradual onset of:
visible or palpable hard and tender lump at the tibial tuberosity
pain in anterior aspect of knee
pain exacerbated by activity, kneeling and knee extension

What is management?
A
reduction in physical actiivity
ice
NSAIDs

What is the prognosis?
A
Symptoms will fully resolve over time but pt is left with hard bony lump on knee

What is a complication
A
Complete avulsion fracture where the tibial tuberosity is separated from the rest of the tibia
