Memory FRQ Flashcards
Acoustic encoding
the process of encoding auditory input for storage and later retrieval
-sounds and words
-speaking lines out loud during practice, she is able to acoustically encode her lines and retrieve them during her performance
Context-dependent memory
the ability to recall information more accurately when provided the same environment that it was learned
-Practicing the play with all the other actors, she is able to remember during the performance because she knows the order of events, lines, and dances
Procedural memory
Stores information in long-term memory about how to perform certain processes
-Encoding dance routines and songs during practice, procedural memory allows her to sing and dance them without much effort because it becomes a motor skill
Distributed practice
Primes your memory by the process of practicing a behavior repeatedly between acceptable periods of time
-Play practice for an hour and a half every day after school instead of eight hours once a week allows Liselle to learn more info and retain it for longer
Proactive interference
New information makes the retrieval of older information more difficult
-Might not remember the first half of the play as clearly as she once did bc the cast had been working on learning the second half that week
Transience
The decreasing ability to retrieve information
-No practice over school Feb break, when she gets back on Monday she doesn’t remember things as well because she didn’t practice over break
Blocking
Not being able to remember certain things because another thought is getting in the way
-tip of the tongue phenomenon
-While practicing one of her songs, she starts thinking about a history quiz tomorrow and then couldn’t remember the words as well.
