Memory 2 Flashcards

1
Q

Describe shallow processing (Craik and Lockhart’s model) and what does it mean

A

Shallow processing is structural (what does it resemble) or phonetic (what does it sound like). Shallow processing is when memory trace is weaker (more likely to forget info).

Q

Strengths of Craik and Lockhart’s model

A

Strengths include: explains well that if we understand info we are more likely to remember it and explains well that longer we consider and analyse info, the more we remember.

Q

Weaknesses in Craik and Lockhart’s model

A

Weaknesses include: longer time it takes to process info doesn’t always lead to better recall. So depth of processing doesn’t always help us remember.
Difficulty in defining what ‘deep’ processing actually involves
Doesn’t account for individual differences
