Classification Flashcards
Fine skill
Fine skills have small muscle movements, accurate or precise movements. Control direction
Gross skills
Gross skills have large muscle movements and large muscle groups. Power and strength movements
Open skills
Open skills take place in an unpredictable, changing environment.
Usually externally paced. Involve decision making. High perceptual load
Closed skills
Closed skills are performed in a predictable environment. Closed skills are habitual. Pre learned. Usually self paced
Self paced
Self paced skills is when movement is initiated by performer. Performer controls speed of movement
Externally paced skills
Externally paced skills is are when performer starts movement based on action of others. Changing environment
Discrete skills
Discrete skills have clear beginner and end.
Start again if required
Continuous skills
Continuous skills have no clear beginning and end.
End of one movement is start of next
Serial skills
Serial skills are numerous discrete skills linked together in a series. Triple jump floor routine.
Simple skills
Simple skills have few stimuli. Limited perceptual load. Few decisions made. Few subroutines
Complex skills
Complex skills have High perceptual load. Linked to complex subroutines. R.f pass by centre court player in netball
Low organisation skills
Low organisation skills sub routines are not closely linked and can be broken and practice separately. Part practice
E.g gymnastics routine
High organisation skills
High organisation skills have subroutines which are closely linked and cannot be easily broken down. E.g cartwheel, golf swing
