1
Q

Q

How is priming measured?

A

Priming is measured as the improvement in performance for previously presented or repeated stimuli as compared to stimuli presented for the first time.

Q

What is the evidence for distinct implicit and explicit LTM? (Corkin)

A

Skill learning:
Data from amnesic patient showed that they were still able to learn a mirror tracing task and rotary pursuit, despite having trouble with explicit memories.

Q

What is the evidence for distinct implicit and explicit LTM? (Warrington and Weiskrantz)

A

Priming:
At encoding amnesic patients were shown lists of words e.g. elephant
At retrieval they did not remember the word or even being presented with the word
However, word-stem completion task showed evidence of implicit learning as they were faster at completing words that they had previously seen compared to ones they hadn’t e.g. ele…………

Q

What is the difference between amnesic patients and patients with Parkinson’s?

A

Amnesic patients have intact performance on priming and skill learning (implicit) but impaired explicit memory.

Parkinson’s patients have intact explicit memory but impaired implicit memory.
