Membranes Flashcards
Gas Gangrene
C. perfringens secretes lipase that digests, hydrolyzes phosphocholine. Breaks down membrane in endothelial cells of blood vessels
Type 2 Diabetes
Hyperglycemia.
Sulfonylurea: stimulate insulin. block ATP K+ channel–>depolarization. Ca+ enters, insulin secreted
Thiazolidinediones: increase glyceroneogen (by inducing PEPCK), reducing fFAs in blood. GAIN INSULIN SENSITIVITY
PHHI: Persistent Hyperinsulinemic Hypoglycemia of Infancy
Hyperglycemia.
Treatment: Diazoxide: decrease insulin. no depolarization. insulin not secreted.
(diazoxide also a hypertension treatment)
Gastroesophageal Reflux
Cl-/bicarb antiport exchanger malfunct
Treatment: Omeprazole (Prilosec). block gastric acid secretion
Type 1 Diabetes
insulin dependent. absolutely no insulin produced. prone to diabetic ketoacidosois (glucose not taken up, prompting b-oxidation of fFA–>KBs). hyperglycemic.
