-water retention (bloating, weight gain, breast tenderness)
-upset stomach/nausea
-headache
What do products containing ethinyl estradiol increase the risk of?
cardiovascular risk
-DVT, PE, MI
-not recommended for 35+ old, smoker, history of stroke/blood clots
What do you do if you miss a dose of a ethinyl estradiol + progestin drug?
take dose as soon as possible or take 2 the next day; if more than 2 are missed refer to package insert
What are some counseling tips for ethinyl estradiol + progestin drug combos?
-if not started on day 1 of cycle, use additional non-drug form of contraception first week of therapy
-take same time each day to increase effectiveness
-some anti-convulsants can decrease effectiveness of contraceptive and can increase chance of seizures
What are Non-FDA approved uses of ethinyl estradiol + Progestin combo drugs?
-regulating menstrual cycle
-lessen menstrual flow
-reduce painful menses

-more commonly experience side effects
-adhesive can cause skin rash/rotate sites
-do not cut patch
-apply to butt, upper torso, stomach, or upper arm
What are important counseling tips with ethinyl estradiol/etonogestrel?
-if ring falls out, rinse w cold water and reinsert within 3 hours
-do not remove for intercourse
-not a barrier
What are important counseling tips for medroxyprogesterone?
-nervousness
-do not use longer than 2 years can cause bone less
-spotting/absent menses can result
What are some important counseling tips for Levnorgestrol?
-fatigue
-can not terminate existing pregnancy
What are some side effects of clonazepam?
-drowsiness
-fatigue
-ataxia (poor muscle control)
-behavorial problems
What are some side effects of alprazolam?
-confusion
-drowsiness
-excessive drowsiness w alcohol
-do not stop taking drug if taken routinely

-dry mouth (xerostomia)
