She was the daughter of King Aeëtes of Colchis, a niece of Circe and the graddaughter of the sun god Helios.

Medea marries Jason and uses her magic to guide/give advice to help him. Jason decides to divorce Medea for someone more prominent: the daughter of King Creon of Corinth (Glauce).
