A

Apollo and Marsyas compete in a singing/music match against each other with the muses acting as the judges. Apollo holds his lyre, and wins the competition. Marsyas was then skinned alive.

Who was Apollo?

A

One of the Greek deities that is the god of oracles, healing, archery, music and arts, sunlight, knowledge, herds and flocks, and protection of the young.

One of his symbols of power was his lyre (kithara) which shows his leadership of the chorus of the nine Muses.
