What happened?
Venus takes the mist of Aeneas’ sight so he can see the various gods at work destroying the city. He runs home, finds his father and asserts him that they all will head to the hills. Anchises refuses despite his family trying to convince him.
Aeneas gives up goes out and fight, whilst Anchises prays for a sign from the gods - from which a shooting star suddenly flashes. He goes to Aeneas and takes Ascanius.
Aeneas takes his father on his shoulder and Ascanius by the hand. He tells some servants about the meeting point and head off, Creusa following behind.
Creusa gets lost along the way due to Aeneas ducking down some alleyways. Once he realizes, he alone goes back to search for her but to no avail, until he meets her ghost. She tells him to go to where the Tibet river flows (i.e. in Italy) and there he will get a new kingdom and a new wife.
He comes back to the cypress tree, the checkpoint, and with some refugees they voyage to their new kingdom.
What did they still manage to bring?
Penates, the household gods, of Troy.
