What is the therapeutic use?
treatment of whipworm, pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm infections
What are the actions?
most commonly used of all of the anthelmintics, effective against pinworms, roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms, causing death of the worm.
What are the contraindications?
known allergy, pregnancy; used with caution during lactation, renal and hepatic disease
What are the adverse effects?
abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, fever and shaking
What would we want to look at before adminstering this med?
a physical assessment, evaluate liver function and renal function, obtain a stool sample, examine reflexes and muscle strength, as well as examining the skin, including color, temp., texture, and note any lesions
