What is the therapeutic use?
treatment and prophylaxis of acute attacks plasmodial malaria; treatment of extraintestinal amebiasis
What is the action?
inhibits protozoal reproduction and protein synthesis
What are the contraindications?
known allergy, lactation, liver disease, alcoholism
What are the adverse effects?
visual disturbances, retinal changes, hypotension, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hepatic dysfunction
What should you ask before adminsitering?
Does the patient already have visual or rentinal issues, or prior diagnosis of hypotension
What do we educate the patient on when taking this med?
take with food to decrease GI disturbances
What are signs the patient should report?
blurring vision, fever, or worsening conditions
What is the route of this med?
oral
