Why did Henry make sure he was corronated formally after Boswoth?

A

It showed that he had been anointed and chosen by God. This also helped Parliment when they declared him as King although Henry made sure to show that they did not have the power to declare anyone king.

A

A

How did Henry 7th reward Yorkists who had opposed Richard?

A

Sir Thomas Lovell who had rebelled against Richard the 3rd in 1483 and joined Henry in exile was made treasurers of the household. Thomas Morton who had also resisted Richard became Chancellor and Archbishop of Canterbury. These were important as they had experience in governing which Henry, having spent his life in exile, did not. They remained loyal to him for the rest of his reign.

How did Henry deal with supporters of Richard?

A

He was able too seize many mens land. John de la Pole swore loyalty to him and he was allowed to join the Royal Council. Henry Percy the Earl of Northumberland who had watched Bosworth from the sidelines was briefly imprisoned before being allowed to return to his lands in the North. The Earl of Surrey was kept in the tower until 1487 but was eventually rehabilitated.

A

A law passed in 1486, allowing Henry to take back any crown lands which had been granted since 1455. This was to increase the wealth of crown and give Henry more spending power then his nobility.

Why was Humphrey Stafford executed?

A

The Stafford brothers wished to have the Earl of Warwick on the throne. They had escaped Bosworth gaining sanctuary at Colchester. They plotted a Rebellion and tried to raise a Rebellion in the Midlands. Henry was in York and went to face the Rebellion but having failed to gain any support the brothers fled. They tried to take refuge in sanctuary but were removed by Henry. Humphrey was executed and his younger brother Thomas was spared.
