Maths Flashcards
What is an “exponent” in maths?
An exponent refers to the number of times a number is multiplied by itself. Little number that floats up to the right.
A logarithm is…
How many of one number do we multiply to get another number? Example: How many 2s do we multiply to get 8? Answer: 2 × 2 × 2 = 8, so we had to multiply 3 of the 2s to get 8 So the logarithm is 3 We write “the number of 2s we need to multiply to get 8 is 3” as: log2(8) = 3
Area of circle
2πR
What is difference between discrete and continous
Discrete data is counted, Continuous data is measured
10 sided shape is
Decagon
9 sided shape is
Nonagon
7 sided shape is
Heptagon
Rhombus
2 lines of symmetry e.g. a diamond
Parallelogram
No lines of symmetry
Trapezium
In the UK a shape with four sides, where two of the sides are parallel; e.g. a car window in the US a shape with four sides, where no sides are parallel
Concave polygon
If any internal angle is greater than 180° then the polygon is concave
Scalene triangle
no equal angles or equal sides
Numbers that aren’t primes
composites
What is a prime factor?
Factors that happen to be primes
Thus they can’t be broken down any further
Improper fraction
is where the numerator is bigger than the denominator. E.g. 8/5
