16
Q

Can i define molecule?

A

A group of atoms bonded together representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can tale part in a chemical reaction

17
Q

Can i define mixture?

A

A mixture consists of two or more different substances mingled with each other but not chemically combined

18
Q

Can i give four differences between a compound and a mixture?

A

1) the amounts of the substances can vary in the mixture but not in the compound
2) a mixture contains two or more substances, a compound is a sing,e substance
3) there are practically no energy changes when a mixture is made, heat is usually taken out or given in when a compound is formed
4) mixtures can be separated back into single elements but compounds cant

19
Q

Can i describe an experiment to compare a mixture of iron and sulfur and iron sulfide?

A

1) mix together iron filings and some sulfur to make a compound
2) using a magnet separate out the iron filings and the sulfur again ( the iron filings will stick to the magnet)
3) now mix the substances together again
4) heat the substance to make a compound using a bunsen burner and a test tube
5) a compound has been made compared to the mixture
6) note how using a magnet you can no longer separate out the iron filings
