Materials and Resources Flashcards
Category intent/focus
Life cycle impacts of materials selected for the project
Amount of material diverted from landfill
MRp1 - Storage and Collection of Recyclables
Easily accessible and dedicated area for the collection and storage of materials for recycling must be provided for the entire building.
Required materials:
Paper, corrugated cardboard, glass, plastics and metals.
Must also recycle 2 of:
Batteries, electronics, mercury-containing lamps
MRp2 + MRc5 - Construction and Demolition Waste Management
Intent: reduce construction and demolition waste disposed of in landfills and incineration facilities by recovering, reusing, and recycling materials
Construction waste management plan:
- Identify and establish waste diversion goals for 5+ materials (structural and non-structural)
- Specify whether materials will be separated or commingled and where they will eventually be recycled or even donated
- Provide major waste streams and diversion rates
2 options to earn points:
- Diversion into multiple waste streams
- Reduction of total waste material (source reduction)
MRc1 - Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction
Awards points for adaptive reuse of existing building resources or by reducing materials use through LCA
4 options: 1. Historic building (5 pts) 2. Abandoned or blighted building (5 pts) 3. Building and material reuse (2-4 pts) 4. Building life cycle impact reduction Modeled against baseline, 10% reduction in 3 of these impact categories: GWP Ozone layer depletion Acidification Eutrophication Formation of tropospheric ozone Depletion of non-renewable energy sources
Location Valuation Factor
Products must be: 1. Extracted 2. Manufactured 3. Purchased w/in 100miles of the project site
Materials worth 200% of their cost for credit calculations
MRc2 to MRc4 - Building Product Disclosure and Optimization
Credits based on cost of materials as a % of total material cost, excluding labor
Strictly deal w/permanent building materials and MEP
MRc2 - BPDO - Environmental Product Declarations
2 options:
1. Environmental Product Declarations
20+ different permanently installed products sourced from 5+ different manufacturers that meet standards
2. Multi-Attribute Optimization
50% by cost of materials are 3rd party certified products that demonstrate reduction of 3+ building LCI reduction factors (eg acidification)
MRc3 - BPDO - Sourcing of Raw Materials
2 options:
1. Raw material source and extraction reporting
Self-declared or 3rd party verified CSR reports
2. Leadership extraction practices
Meet at least one of following criteria for at least 25% by cost of value of permanent installations:
EPR (50%)
Bio-Based Materials (100%)
Certified Wood (100%)
Materials Reuse (100%)
Recycled Content (Post = 100%, Pre = 50%)
Chemical Abstract Service Registration Number
Greenscreen for safer chemicals
Health product declaration open
Cradle to Cradle
Green Screen
MRc4 - BPDO - Material Ingredients
Intent: select products whose ingredients are transparently reported and have verified improved life cycle impacts through mitigating the use of harmful substances
- Material ingredient reporting (1 pt)
- Ingredient Optimization (1 pt)
- Supply Chain Optimization (1pt)
