Master Yachts | Fuel Calculations Flashcards
1
Q
What is Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC)?
A
Engine or propulsion data calculated from sea trials providing weight of fuel consumed per hour at various loads (power output).
2
Q
What units are used for the weight of fuel and power output?
A
- Kilogrammes & Kilowatts
SFC = 220/1000/1 = 0.22KG/Kw/hr
3
Q
Which consumption graph is of particular interest to a Master?
A
Consumption in Litres per Mile - the graph which indicates the most economical speed.
4
Q
What does the Maximum Range graph depict?
A
- Most economical speed
- Maximum theoretical range
5
Q
What is the formula for finding litres per mile, when ‘fuel used’ and ‘distance’ is known?
A
Fuel / Distance
