  • Small circular motions over a trigger point or muscle spasm
  • Deep massage technique
  • Used to reduce edema, loosen adhesions, + relieve muscle spasms
  • Used with chronic inflammation + overuse injuries

A
  • Kneading, where the muscle is squeezed and rolled under the PT’s hands
  • Used to loosen adhesions, improve lymphatic return, + facilitate removal of metabolic waste from area
  • Performed DISTAL to PROXIMAL

  • Stimulation through rapid alternating movements (tapping, hacking, cupping, slapping)
  • Enhances circulation + stimulates peripheral nerve endings
