A type of religious folksong that is most closely associated with the enslavement of African people in the American South.
Negro Spirituals
It is essentially a vocal form. Usually lyrical rather than narrative because the expression of feelings is foremost
Blues
In most performances, players play solos they make up on the spot, requiring considerable skill. This type of music also might have lyrics but are not necessary.
Jazz Music
A music evolved by black American musicians in the 19th century and played especially on the piano, characterized by a syncopated melodic line and regularly accented accompaniment.
Ragtime
A type of musical ensemble of jazz music that usually consists of ten or more musicians with four sections: saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section. Originated during the early 1910s and dominated jazz in the early 1940s.
Big Band
Consists of 4 to 6 musicians
Bebop
A combination of blues, ragtime, and brass band.

Also called “Alternative Rock”, pop music style, built on distorted guitars and rooted in generational discontent, that dominated and changed rock between 1991 and 1996.
