Handling:
- ‐ WIPERQ
- ‐ Q–ConfirmName,DoB
- ‐ Move bed AWAY from wall
- ‐ REMOVE headrest and side rails
- ‐ RAISE BED to waist height
- ‐ BRAKE ON
- ‐ EXPLAIN then ROLL patient towards you. as if in recovery position.
- ‐ Ask colleague to slide sheet under with fold in middle
- ‐ Roll patient other way
- ‐ Pull sheet to other side and unfold
- ‐ Ensure patient is CENTRAL
- ‐ Hands at shoulders and hips, knuckles DOWN
- ‐ Make sure colleague is trained
- ‐ Rehearse command ONCE
- ‐ Rehearse ‘ready, steady, slide’
- ‐ Move patient by sliding mat without lifting.
- ‐ WARN patient before reaching and removing sliding sheet by reaching under legs, gripping the opposite corner and pulling under the patient so that it slides under itself.
- ‐ THANK patient
- ‐ REPLACE height of bed and all rails, lower bed and move back into position.

who do you use a PAT slide
A

put the 2 beds next to each other, put them both at hip height.
put the brakes on and the sides down
one person rolls patient towards them by reaching across the patient and grabbing the sheet.
other person slides the PAT slide underneath the patient to bridge across the 2 beds.
lie the patient back down so half on the PAT slide
person who put PAT slide down grabs the sheet on their side at the hip and shoulder level and pulls patient over.
roll patient towards you and withdraws PAT slide
put bannisters back up and return bed to original position with breaks back on
check patient is ok then thank
