Managing Risk the IPDE Process Flashcards
IPDE Process
an organized system that includes the following steps to avoid conflict: identify, predict, decide, and execute as they relate to driving
What is the Zone Control System designed for?
to help drivers manage the space around their cars
What are the steps in an orderly visual search pattern
1) look ahead, 2) evaluate your zones, 3) check the rearview mirror, 4) evaluate your 4-6 and 5) 12-15 second ranges, 6) check your speedometer, 7) check your gauges
Selective Seeing
you identify and select only those clues and events that restrict your line of sight or can change your intended path of travel
How do you predict how hazards might affect your path of travel?
you have to evaluate the situation and make a judgement about the consequences
What are the 3 main decisions you can make while driving?
minimize the threat of a single hazard by adjusting speed and direction, allow 2 hazards to separate, or adjust and split what little space there is between hazards with a compromise decision
What are the 3 main actions you can execute when driving?
speed control, steering, and communicating
What does the IPDE Process take?
practice and time
