What are the reasons why employee may resist change?
Loss of job security – new technology might replace their job
Fear the unknown
Fear of failure – they pay for they do not have the necessary skills
What are the strategies for managing change effectively?
Communication, employee empowerment, training and development, rewards, teamwork, total quality management
How can communication be a strategy for managing change effectively?
 management must be open and honest about changes coming. They should explain the needs for a change and staff should be consulted on the chains before they go ahead. It will lead to employees feeling more valued and increased their motivation.
What is employee empowerment?
 it is when management gives employees a certain amount of independence and responsibility in decision-making in the business
How can a business encourage employee empowerment?
Invest in training– ensure staff have the correct skills to take on additional responsibility
Rewards – offer financial and non-financial awards to encourage a place to take on more responsibilities
Culture – critic culture where employees are encouraged to take responsibility and not afraid of making mistake
What are the benefits of employee empowerment?
Higher motivation – employees feel valued and trusted in the workplace to productivity also increases
Decision-making – employees have the skills and knowledge to make decisions which speeds up the process
Management time – management can priorities more important tasks
What are the drawbacks of employee empowerment?
Control – managers will have less control of decision-making which can lead to poor decisions and a drop productivity
Employee training – employees will need to be trained to have the adequate skills to take on more responsibility which can create added costs
Stress – some employees may not want the additional responsibility which can lead to stress and industrial relations issues
How do rewards help managing change?
They need to negotiate with staff and reaching agreement on changes. They can offer incentives like bonuses entire wages in an effort to encourage employees to embrace the change.

Motivation – they are working as a team so their social needs are met
Decision-making – team members have better knowledge and skills so they can share knowledge and within teams each member can be assigned different roles which allows them to work in a more efficient way
Reduced absenteeism – once an employee these other employees depending on them they are less likely to miss work as they feel they belong

What is stage one in team development and explain it?
Forming
This is where employees come together for the first time there is a lack of trust and the goal for the team is outlined
What is the second stage of team development and explain it?
Storming
This is where members come together to share their different views. It may lead to conflict and a manager must manage this.
What is stage three of team development and explain it?
Norming
Members become more clear on their roles and trust starts to develop
What is the last stage of team development and explain it?
Performing
Team focuses on achieving the goals and they finally trust each other and work hard to make decisions quickly
How can training and development help managing change effectively?
If employees have adequate training, they can increase new challenges and change. There must be adequate funding and resources provided to ensure training is effective. It will help to overcome fear of the unknown.
What is total quality management? TQM?
It is a commitment by a management and employees to continuously promote and encourage quality in all aspects of the firms operations. All employees work to create good quality products and services for consumers.
What are the principles of TQM?
Focus on the customer – providing the best goods and service for the customer possible so they must conduct market research and seek feedback on how to improve
Quality assurance – system put in place by senior management that guarantees quality at every stage of production
Continuous improvement – every person in the business aims to constantly improve the goods and services provided by the Business
Teamwork – employees working together towards a common goal which improves productivity motivation and makes a quicker decision making process
Employee empowerment – management gives employees a certain amount of independence and responsibility in the decision-making in the business which improves motivation and gives better productivity

It is the commitment by a management and employees continuously promote and encourage quality in all aspects of the firms of operations
Increase staff motivation – staff and valued and trusted as a result of employee empowerment
Increase sales – TQM involves Business focusing on the needs of the customer so it is easier to develop customer loyalty
Reduced costs – there is continuous improvement and quality so there is a reduced number of defects and there is less wastage
Teamwork – working as part of the team satisfy the social needs of employees
