Malignant Ct Tumors 2 Flashcards
Most common primary malignant tumor of bone
Osteosarcoma
Clinical similarity between soteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma
-both at age 33y
-both slowly growing
-cause nasal obstruction if in maxilla
- cause parathesia and loosening and resorption of roots of teeth
- more in males
-
Clinical differences between soteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma
-osteo
..Painful
..3 to 4 cm
Chondrosarcoma
.. cause epistaxis
Xray similarity between soteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma
- start by widening of pdl
- resorption of roots
- ill defined rl lesion
- sunburst appearance in occ film (osteosarcoma in 25% of cases )
Xray Differences between soteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma
Chondrosarcoma
-could be mixed scattered ro
Or lobulated
Jaw metastasis are mostly from 1ry tumor in
Metastases to the jaws of adults mainly originate frum primary carcinomres of the breast In
women and of the lung in men
Prostate. gastrointestinal tract,kidney colon rectum
In descending order
Percent of metastasis to jaw parts
Sitemandible (805%) in premolar molar region, the angle, and the body of the mandible while
24% to maxilla and 5% to both jaws
Xray pic of metastasis
Lesions appear usually as poorly defined, imegular radiolucent areas (moth eaten).)
Some metastatic carcinomas (prostate and thyroid)
are characterized by osteoblastic process new bone formation appear either a mixed or radiopoque leslan.
Cytojeratin
cytokeratin present in all carcinoma cells confirming the epithelial origin of undifferentiated
tumors
