Ameloblastoma Flashcards
Lesions with radiographic picture of scalloped Margin
- ameloblastoma the multicystic rarely if it became unilocular
- traumatic bone cyst
X ray of multicystic type
Multilocular radiolucent area due to proliferation of tumor tissue. in() bone trabeculae (if the locull are smallhoney combed, if large → soap bubble appearance).
May be associated with unerupted tooth (mainly 3 molar) or in place of a missed tooth.
Resorption of roots of involved teeth. Rarely may appear unilocular RL with scalloped margins.
Unicystic is it painful?
In max?
Neighbouring teeth?
No
Tuberosity 15%
Mobile with resorbed roots
Ttt of unicystic ameloblastoma
Marginal resection with 1cm safety margin
Enblock resection can be done
Enucleation with curettage causes 55 to 90% recurrence
Recurrence rate of unicystic ameloblastoma
10 to 20%
Site and symptoms of unicystic ameloblastoma
- 90% in posterior mandible
- asymptomatic but if large would cause painless swelling
Peripheral ameloblastoma clinically
- painless swelling sessile or pedunculated in ging. Or alveolar mucosa of post mand
- not ulcerated
- size less than 1.5 cm
Recurrence of peripheral ameloblastoma
25%
Which is worse ameloblastic carcinoma or malignant ameloblastoma
Ameloblastic carcinoma
Malignant ameloblastoma
- same histology
- no signes of malignancy
- malignant behaviour
- with distant metastasis by lymphatic and blood
- into lung vertebrae other bones cervical lymph nodes
- radiographically the same
Ameloblastic carcinoma
- ameloblastoma that show signes of malignancy histologically
- may have metastasis
- lically aggressive
- illdefined with cortical destruction
