making a neuron Flashcards
what is proneural cluster?
group of cells in neuroectoderm in which one cell will become a neuroblast
what are cell fates in proneural cluster?
primary - neuroblast
secondary epidermis
what is laeral inhibition?
mechanism in which cells inhibit neighbouring cells from developing in a similar way to themselves
what group is proneural cluster?
equivelence group (all cells have equilvalent potential to become epidermis/neuroblast)
what happes to proneural cluster in notch or delta mutation?
all cell in proneural cluster become neuroblast
what are notch and delta?
delta - ligand
notch - receptor
work in same pathway as a ligand receptor pair
membrane bound
signal JUXACRINE (when cels are next to each other )
what happens when delta bind to notch?
notch has cleavage which releases intracellular fragment that forms part of transcription complex
what do notch and delta cause lateral inhibition
expression of notch causes repression of delta in same cell
amplification of delta and ntoch inhibition
high delta = neuroblast
HIGH DELTA FORMS A NEUROBLAST
what fo nueroblast form?
another neuroblast and a ganglion mother cell
assymetric division by autonomous mechanism (numb unevenly distributed
what does ganglion mother cell divide into?
2 neurons eventually
wha does numb prtein do?
inhibit notch function
what happened if over + underexpression of notch in fly?
underexpression - 4 neurons from
overexpression - 4 socket cells form
how are nural connections refined?
by pruning / cell death
